IVF Consult

Our last failed IUI landed us back in the office of Dr. C for an IVF consult. I was very nervous for so many reasons. I feared that they would turn us away. I feared that we wouldn't be able to afford it. We both feared what the hell this whole process was going to bring for us. We had spent the past year and a half trying to keep it together, making sure that we only cry in front of each other and close family. Was this going to bring us to more pain and heartache?

The doc explained that Bry's count was dwindling so we would need to use a procedure called ICSI. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a a form of micromanipulation, which involves the injection of a single sperm directly into the cytoplasm of a mature egg using a glass needle. She also felt that IVF is the only way that we can get pregnant. At this point I was excited that we were accepted as IVF patients. We then discussed the option of Egg Donation. Our office has devised a system where people can donate half of their eggs to another infertile couple. This gave us something to think about. How did we feel about giving away part of myself? What would it mean to give away my own genetics?
