When I ponder the idea of answering this question for my little girls some day it kind of makes me smile. I am sure we will give them the traditional "bird and the bees" discussion that all kids get. But, the funny part to me is the way that our girls story really goes. Instead of "when a mommy and a daddy love each other... out of that love comes a baby" our story goes a little more like "when a mommy and a daddy love each other... they try and try and try and fail and fail and fail. Then they save lots of money and go find a doctor who can help them. Then they spend lots and lots of money and lots and lots of time going to see those doctors and having lots of tests run. Next Mommy has to give herself shots two times every day and Daddy gives her a big shot in the hynie. Then one day when the time is right the doctors perform surgery and collect up the eggs and the sperm and they make you. You live in a petri dish for 3 days while they watch you go from a couple cells to 8. When you reach 8 cells they put you back in and wait to see what happens."
It just doesn't have the same ring to it as the usual birds and the bees discussion. We will probably hold off on that discussion until our girls are MUCH older. :>)
