Today we had our follow up physical therapy appointment with Renee. Brian, My Mom and I all went so we had plenty of hands and ears available. We got her weighed and measured and she is at 13lbs, 23 1/2 inches and her head was 42 1/2 cm. Renee saw her and of course Abby did not want to cooperate. She told us that she appears to be functioning at a 1 or 2 month level (which is at least 3 months behind). Her adjusted age is only 3 weeks behind so the gaps are starting to widen.
When she plotted her head circumference she found that her head size has spiked and when that happens they fear fluid buildup. With the ventriculomegaly during pregnancy the chance was always there that it could come back. So now we get to start the process of trying to find out why her head is growing and why her motor is so behind. Her fontanelle has become fibrous so they also are afraid that her growth plates may be closing. So the possibilities is there that we might be talking about surgery. :>( So we are now going to have to go to the hospital for in-depth PT and monitoring weekly. We are in the midst of scheduling her MRI (have to get the pre-authorizations first) and then we go back to the neonatologist (yes, we have been demoted from pedi to neonate). Hopefully it is not anything too big that would require more than waiting or even a shunt.
We are not terribly worried since even if it is growth plates or fluid they are both managed by a routine surgery. I just hate to see me little peanut have to go through this. So I ask that once again you keep our little girl in your prayers. I will post more as we know it.
