When I take the girls out in public at least every time someone says how much they wanted twins and how it must be so wonderful. Of course it is wonderful but sometimes I just want to remind people how stressful and EXPENSIVE it can be. We get by with all the day to day stuff (diapers my parents get, formula I try to buy online, etc., etc.) but the big stuff is killer. When normal people go to buy a high chair, car seat, crib, etc. they can usually spring for the more pricey models because they are only buying one. In our case when we read a price tag we always have to double it.
I am in the process of pricing out new car seats since the girls will soon be too big for their infant seats. (And I doubt my back will tolerate it much longer.) Most people recommend the Britax Marathon convertible since you can use it from infancy until about 6 years of age. I LOVE the carseat and they have the cutest patterns. I also love that they are rated as one of the safest carseats on the market. That being said they are $270ish EACH! One I could handle easily... BUT TWO. You do get a 10 or 15% discount at Babies R Us for twin items but it is still insane. I can't cheap out on carseats since the most dangerous place for a child is in the car but man is that pricey.
How cute are these though:
Gotta love that cow print!

Go for the Britax if you can. They are not only safer, they are so much easier to use! Definitely cheap out on some other items. My daughter has the cowmooflague one and we love it! PS Your daughters are adorable!
Britax typically has a big sale towards the end of Feb if you are able to wait.
Also, some searching online shows some Marathon models at $229. Still a decent chunk, but less than $279.
We have a Marathon and love it. It is so easy to install, etc.
We have the Graco Comfortsport which is also rated well and is only around $80 at Target and it works great for us.
Hmm... a big sale in February. That will be worth waiting for.
I know I don't ever comment, but I found your blog right after you found out you were having twins (I had boy/girl twins at the beginning of June). Anyway, we went to albeebaby.com where they had Fisher-Price Safe Voyage car seats that are actually made by Britax for $130 apiece. Now, they aren't as cute as the Britax ones (I love the "cowmooflage" one), but they're functional and pretty easy to install.
Sara - Thanks for the suggestion I will definitely look into that!
Hi Kristen. first, thanks for the great information that you've given us! Our twins are due in May & we're now in the process of replacing our current vehicle for a twin-plus-4-yo-friendly vehicle. I think my job may be providing the twin stroller, but as you said, everything must be doubled for the twins so we're relying on the grace of God.
