I know that in many cases people do not think before they open their mouths. I have experienced all levels of stupidity over the past two years. The stupidity when I was pregnant was much more innocent and funny. Since I have had so many issues with the girls the comments have gotten dumber and sometimes more hurtful. Once people hear the girls are over 1 they almost always ask if they are walking. I always reply one yes and one no. Some people leave it at that while others probe a little and ask why. I am usually up front and say that Abby has motor delays that slow down her progress. This is where I hear the comment I love the most (and I hear it almost every day). To this a remarkable amount of people say "well, it's probably for the best that you only have to chase one of them around right now." I usually smile and say I guess. Somedays I am a little more sarcastic and snarky.
What I feel like saying is yes... it is probably better that my child has to live with a disability for my convenience. It's great watching her scream every time I walk away and she can't follow. It's wonderful having her envious eyes follow the rest of us around the house while she is stuck in one spot. She is just loving her younger sister walking, climbing and jumping all over her with little way to retaliate. And the hours and hours of PT a week are a hoot and a half. I know people don't mean it the way it sounds but I am so freaking sick of hearing it!
