Every 6 months, as a part of Early Intervention, each child is reassessed to see if they have met their goals and to set new goals. Abby's previous goals were to roll over in both directions (CHECK), Sit unsupported (CHECK) and to get up on all fours and rock (CHECK PLUS!!!). The assessors were thrilled that she was able to meet and exceed her goals. So her goals by the time she is 20 months is to have her balance more secure, her tone better, cruising furniture, standing and maybe even walking.
It just amazes me how far we have come. Just a quick recap, at 17 weeks gestation they found a ventriculomegaly that was thought to be catastrophic. At my 21 week scan the megaly was still present and our doctor entered the room, shut the door, sat down and put his hands behind his head and said (and I will never forget) "this is the worst meeting you have to have with a parent... wait no... the second worst (behind telling them their baby is dead)." He went on to explain that "if" our baby lived that she would have minimal quality of life. His best recommendation was to terminate. I cannot explain the devestation that I felt at that moment. Thank God my very wonderful husband was able to quickly and kindly say that terminating was NOT AN OPTION. He did this before I walked around the desk and attacked my perinatologist.
Flash ahead and here we are. Abby may not be setting the world on fire with her progress but every day I stand in complete awe of this child. We went from a child who would probably not walk or talk to a child that is crawling, pulling up on her knees, signing almost 10 words and is cognitively PERFECT. All I can say is God is good!

Certainly, God is good! You guys are awesome!
Hi, so glad to read your post - I'm part of a ventriculomegaly forum (http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/Babies/Ventriculomegaly) and the mums on there are desperate to know about outcomes like this.
Can you remember what the vents measured through your pregnancy?T
I'm also going to post your blog on the forum for the others to see.
Thanks
Adele
God is good! And He has certainly blessed you with two beautiful little girls! *HUGS*
