Today my little girls turned one and a half. I really don't know where 18 months have gone. I can close my eyes and still feel them swimming around in my belly. I can easily conjure up the memories of having them where no one else could feel them or know them like I did. It feels like yesterday that they were so small I could easily put both of them on my lap to feed them. And now, they are big girls. Their baby looks and baby ways are fading slowly but surely. Now I am the mom of two kids... not two babies.
So here is what my girls have been up to:
Abby: Abs is still working hard at her PT. Right now we are working hard on balance and strength. She uses her walker but quickly realize that crawling is a hell of a lot faster than her walker indoors. She loves to eat and will eat almost anything I put in front of her. Her favorite things right now are rice mixed with guacamole, crackers and fruit smoothies. Her sleeping patterns are still erratic. She wakes at least once at night (usually around 3ish) and sometimes more. She only naps about an hour a day but the kid looks tired a lot. She is seeing her doctors a little less frequently these days which is nice. Instead of weekly visits to some doc or another we often go two or three weeks in between visits. We have PT weekly but that's more convenient. Abby is talking up a storm. She will say just about anything you ask her to and can verbalize or sign almost all her wants and needs. Abby is happiest these days either playing in the bath with Gracie, going to my parents house or dancing (and boy can she dance).
Gracie: When I look at Gracie I really don't know where the time has gone. She now looks like a bona fide big girl. Her hair is getting long, she is getting so tall and she is getting pretty. Not just baby cute but beautiful. She has turned into a VERY picky eater, although not in the traditional sense. She loves guacamole and rice, hummus and flatbread, cous cous, beans and fruit. Getting her to eat veggies or meat is a real chore lately. She is sleeping like a champ. She goes right to bed at 8 or 8:30 and never wakes at night. She naps a good 2 hours each afternoon. She is still a pacie AND blankie baby. I am a huge fan of comfort items so I am cool with having pacies and blankies. I doubt she'll walk down the aisle with her pacifier and blankie in her pocket so why sweat it. :D Her reflux has been pretty bad lately. She stopped taking her prilosec about a week ago and ended up puking regularly again. It sucked but it also reminded us how much she needs her meds. They now have her on Prevacid and Reglan which is doing okay. Gracie is happiest these days in the tub, on a walk or anywhere that she can full out run. The kid LOVES to move. I am hoping to get her to little gym or something like that this winter.
Twin Stuff: It amazes me every single day to watch how intertwined twins are. To the outside world they probably don't look all that close to one another. As their Mom I know otherwise. Every morning they play together in their cribs while I get myself together. We moved their cribs so they are next to each other. When I go in Abby starts to yell "Ace" "Ace" which means Grace. I put her in Gracie's crib and the two of them play for another few minutes. They have their own language, their own set of rules and their own little world. There are many days where the two of them live in their world and I am just an outsider who provides food and diaper changes. It truly is amazing to get to watch this all unfold.
As for us (the parents), we're doing great. Still tired but great. Brian works quite a but so I have had to take on more of the household responsibilities. Abby not being a great sleeper is tough on me some days. Moving will be awesome once we're done with the actual move. Having more space and a devoted play room will be heavenly.
