This weekend the kids were playing with a scale at my Moms house (weird kids thought it was a hoot) and since we haven't weighed Abby in a while (bad, bad parents... I know) we figured why not. We were shocked that fully dressed she weighs 2 ounces less than she did in August. : ( She has been diagnosed as failure to thrive but since she was following her own little curve we haven't been worrying much. At 23 pounds she is in the average size (50th percentile) for a 15 month old baby... and she almost two and a half. She wears 12-18 month cloths and some of them hang off her body. What the heck? She hasn't been eating a ton lately but she eats. I am starting to think it might be time to see someone for nutrition. We have always been able to avoid extra measures to put on weight but it might be time. The thought of one more issue or specialist for this kid is not the happiest of thoughts. I just don't want to overlook something as important as nutrition and growth.

Petite little thing. Have you considered supplementing with a high calorie formula for older babies? like an Ensure type of thing. You probably already are.
My son is 25 lbs and 31 months. He is not even near the growth chart. He eats like a typical two year old but does have milk and cheese allergies.
My ped. and alllergist are not concerned at this point b/ c otherwise normal development. We went to a nutritionist and it was a waste of time and money.
Anon 1 - We have had a hard time finding milk-free supplements like those. I ordered one online that I thought was vegan but it has milk proteins.
Anon 2- The problem in Abby's case is that with her abnormal development it always makes the pedi and genetics team nervous. Who knows what part nutrition is playing. I agree that the nutritionists tend to be a waste. She eats a great diet and it is quite varied. I am just thinking we need someone who is looking out for this issue. Because she sees so many specialists these types of issues tend to get overlooked. KWIM?
