From the time Abby was very small it was very clear that she was not a good sleeper. Her schedule always sucked, her sleeping was minimal and very fitful. Now that she is nearing two and a half things have not changed. She naps for sometimes less than an hour. She sleeps a minimal amount of hours at night. She often wakes during the night multiple times. Some nights she takes up to two hours talking and singing in her bed to fall asleep.
It doesn't sound like much but over two years this wears you down. The interrupted sleep... the long nights... the night terrors... It eats at you. A couple nights ago while on hour 2 of her talking in bed (at around 10 at night) Brian compared her sleepless nights to psychological warfare. Now I can't help but wonder if this is all part of her master plan to wear me down so she can stage a toddler coup. Hmm....

I had to delurk to sympathize with you. I have a two year old who also doesn't sleep well and has night terrors. He does usually take an okay nap though so that helps (him) a little. I am of course almost always exhausted because I don't get the luxury of a nap. Somedays it's like torture. I don't think anybody who hasn't been through it can understand what it feels like to be sleep deprived for TWO YEARS. My 5 yr. old slept for big stretches at 3 months old and I thought I must have done something right to get that to happen. Ha! I've spent much more time and energy trying to get this one to sleep and we're still not there. It's better and occassionally he'll go all night without waking but it's rare. Four hour stretches is mostly what we get.
Eventually we'll get to sleep again, right?
