Still a little surreal that we have gone from pathetic losers who loved football and baseball teams who couldn't do anything right to back to back World Series Attendances (and hopefully wins). Hard to believe...
And why do I write about baseball so much? Is it because I am a little obssessed? Is it to irritate readers who don't give a crap about baseball let alone Philadelphia's team? Nope... it's because I have loved baseball my whole life. I have been watching baseball faithfully since I was a little girl. I say by my Dad's side in my little red phillies cap and I smiled through the rough seasons. I watched when they sucked. I watched when they got a little better and then started sucking again. Through it all I loved every minute. I loved that baseball was part athletic skill but also part psychology. It's a thinking game. It's strategy and cleverness and skill. Now we Phillies fans get to sit on the top of the mountain and look down. I write because it will be brief. Because in three years the Phillies will probably suck again. We'll be at the bottom of the pile again, starting to rebuild. We will watch our favorite players traded away to teams that will beat us in the playoffs. But I will still watch. I will be able to because NOW I will be able to remember how wonderful it was to live in a city where we all pat each other on the back when they win. We high five in Target if we are both wearing Phillies shirts. You get the collective feeling of excitement and rush and fervor. We are the tenth man on the field every single game. It's just downright exciting!
