The PT and Neuro doc at CHOP agreed that braces called SureStep Braces would be the best for Abby. When she walks her legs have very poor tone and muscle control. It is part of the reason she falls so much. The idea is that the braces will provide the stability the lower part of her leg needs so her legs don't "roll in" so much. I now have to go through the process of finding an orthotist to fit her and order the braces. I am praying our insurance will cover at least some of it but I am not sure yet.
The SureStep website has a great video of what their orthotics do different than typical ones.

Ask your PT for a good orthotist! There is pretty much one in Denver that everyone knows - so we go to him! That's where we got Cici's AFO's. Your insurance should cover it, and if they don't, appeal, appeal, appeal - it's a pain, but not as much of a pain as paying for something that you need! Good luck, and I'll help you with the insurance/appeal stuff if I can!
THANK YOU for that offer. I find one of the most irritating parts of all this fighting with our insurance. Thankfully they lowered our deductible this year so it will be easier. We are taking her to who is considered the best orthotics place locally so fingers crossed they are good at working with small people. :D I might have to take you up on that offer.
