Ok, so in the same vane of my time saving tricks I thought I might post about Mom tricks. Those things we have learned and use to keep out kids in line, ease our lives and save time. I always keep organic low sugar lollipops in my purse so when we shop they can eat 4 in a row without huge dental bills in the future. People might look at me in line when I hand them back to back pops, but at least they're quiet. Another of my shopping tricks is scoping out which stores have double carts that we can use. Saves me a lot of hassle of juggling a stroller and cart. For especially grumpy kids we take a blanket, sit them in the middle, Brian and I each grab a side and we swing them like in a hammock. Definitely soothes the savage beast. I have several others (as we all do) but I would love to hear some of your best Mom tricks.

I always have a ziploc bag of crayons and a little notepad in my purse to occupy Kate. Sometimes a little pack of stickers too.
There is always a travel pack of wet wipes stashed in the car somewhere (this is more pertinent when you're no longer carrying a diaper bag).
I keep a couple boxes of sugar free, fat free instant pudding in the pantry for really crabby days. Kate can help me make one and it's ready in 5 minutes.
I completely forgot about one of my craftiest mommy tricks!
Kate HATES it when I shut the tv off. So I use the sleep timer on it to make it "magically" shut off. She doesn't see me do it so it makes it easier for her to handle.
I will not acquiesce in on it. I over nice post. Specially the designation attracted me to review the sound story.
I have as similar trick as Plant Girl with the TV - Ava pretty much only watches shows on On Demand (under the Free Zone). I found that if she watches TV on regular TV then 2 hours go by before I'm like, "Wait, how long have you been watching TV?!" And, it makes it harder to turn it off b/c it's always in the middle of a show or commercial about whatever horrible toy is coming out that she has now decided that she needs (ugh). So, now she nows that we pick a show on On Demand and when it's over, it's over. Simple. And, the other bonus is that we only watch my approved shows on On Demand rather than whatever crap comes on the TV.
If we're going somewhere and she'll need to be entertained for a bit (doctor's office, car shop, etc.) then I pack one of her purses with small goodies (pretend cell phone, lip gloss, memory game, box of crayons and a little notepad, tiny books, etc.) and I present it to her after we get there and only after she starts to get restless. I do the same for Linc, except his goes in the diaper bag rather than a purse ;-)
When we go grocery shopping, I always give her a job. She holds the list and gives it to me when I need to look at it, then she gets it back for safe keeping. I usually tell her 3 things to look for that we need. She always helps me "pay" at check-out which just means that she puts the groceries on the conveyer belt. Also, she's allowed to pick out 1 treat every time we go to the grocery store. This is fun for me too b/c I love to see what she'll pick. Last night, she picked a pear :-)
Singing. Singing always seems to help every situation. I bust into song when Linc won't sit still for a diaper change or for a nail trim. We even sing in the grocery store if both kids reach their done point well before we're done. We make up songs, we sing the same song over and over, whatever, but we SING! Poor people all around us...
That's all I can think of right now...
eek! Correction: "Now she (k)nows..."
