No, not that kind of power... I mean the literal kind. Today just as I finally (and I mean finally, my kids suck at sleeping) got my kids to bed I sat down at my computer to work. I am back to teaching on Friday so I have to have my classes ready to go by then. As I quickly checked through a couple blogs and my e-mail before working we lost our electricity. It quickly came back on and I was hugely relieved. I know, because my parents live in this neighborhood and I grew up here, that power outages are a strangely common occurrence. And when the power does go out it isn't for 20 minutes... more like a few hours. Just as I was counting my technological blessings the power went back down. I called my Mom and sure enough they had no power either and the power company was saying it would likely be back on around 4:15. THIS WAS AT 1:30!
So I found myself in quite a conundrum. What in the heck do you do if you don't have power. Work? No. My laptop battery was dead. Vacuum? Nope. Take a shower? We have no windows in our bathroom. Laundry? Not gonna work. I guess I should have felt relieved to sit and read for a couple hours then put together a storage ottoman that needed to get done but I didn't. I kept thinking about everything I could be doing with electricity. Made me realize just how overly dependent I am.

Right there with you, sister, right there with you...
I must be weird because I love when the power goes out. It forces me to do more simple things. I can read, play cards or games, write quick notes to friends...
My favorite weekends are when we take the camper into the mountains where I have no electricity (other than the generator), no computer, no TV and no cell phone.
Mandy - I am very jealous of your ability to simplify when need be. I should take your lead and work on that... maybe a resolution of sorts. :D
