Food allergies suck. We lived with a peanut allergy when Genna was a kid and I thought that was bad. Try reading the ingredients on what you eat. Either milk or egg (or both) are in so much of what we eat. We have learned to cope and we are thankful that we are only dealing with a few allergies. Some poor kids (and parents) live with a laundry list of food allergies.
But in spite of coping there are times when it sucks. It sucks when we can't get our kid an ice cream cone when everyone else is. It sucks that Abby can't eat things so we either don't let Gracie east it either or we let Gracie eat it and not Abby. Neither one of those feels much like a victory. We cook, shop, prepare and live "Abby friendly" but it doesn't mean there aren't moments when you think to yourself "man this sucks".

The upside is that a vegan style diet is incredibly healthy--you're actually giving them a lifelong gift by starting them out this way. What we consider dietary staples are really just cultural renderings. We think eating ice cream is meaningful cause we've been told that. You are raising out-of-the-box thinkers!
Anon - Thank you for reframing that for me. When I am grounded I do remind myself that my kids are awesome eaters. They would prefer veggie sticks to potato chips and cous cous salad to chicken and fries. That is a huge plus!
