This week I decided to start using a "Behavior Chart". It is basically a chore chart where each of the girls is working on a few things each day. When they are successful in what they are working on they get a magnetic star in one of their columns. They are working in things like "listening to mommy", "not fighting", "cleaning up after themselves", "helping mommy" and "giving our paci a time out". Each time they reach 5 stars they get to choose something from the prize jar. I put little stuff like stickers, temporary tattoos, lollipops and fruit snacks in the jar.
I really didn't think at this age a "token economy" system would be very motivating but it is working surprisingly well. When they get a start they are so proud they want to repeat the behavior. When they lose a star they look so distressed. It is nice to see them being accountable to THEMSELVES. We're trying to keep it simple to start with but eventually we can work in more complex things like potty training, doing their therapy, cleaning their playroom, etc.
