Friday was our very first (of many, I am sure) IEP meetings for the girls. I won't go into too much detail as recounting the almost 3 hour experience might be a little long winded. :D I am used to these meetings from my old life as a working therapist. Brian was obviously taken aback when we walked into a room with seven people sitting around the table. The meeting was fairly informal and we started with Grace. Long story short she is a very sensory driven kid who has some speech issues to work on. The speech therapist came up with some excellent thoughts on the root of grace's problems with articulation and clarity. I am excited to see what they will do with her. She is going to get once weekly speech (in the form of being pulled out of her classroom to work with the therapist) and twice weekly OT. The classroom aides will also adhere to her sensory diet every day.
Abby will be getting twice weekly PT and OT. The team was completely fascinated by her accomplishments. They all read the literature on RS and are completely in awe of how well she is doing. Although she wasn't tested for her cognitive abilities (we have no worries about this area right now) the psychologist told us she want to test her sometime next week as she thinks she is so bright she's off the charts. :D What parents don't want to hear this!
All in all we are so pleased with the teacher they will have, the classroom setting, our case manager and the child study team in general. The class size can be no larger than 12 and there will be a teacher, two aides and a personal aid for Abs.
We have some strategies to work on over the summer to help Grace go without a complete meltdown. We have been having some serious attachment issues with her. Hopefully our efforts will lead to a smooth transition come September.

you're such a good mom! We love the "practice runs" in our house to prepare our daughter for any kind of new experience or change. It really helps her with plane rides and dentists visits, etc. Lately we've been practicing manners over stuffed animal tea parties. Fun and practical!
Thanks Anon - It NEVER hurt to get a little encouragement that you are doing a good job. :D
