Next week is Gracie's scheduled surgery. It will be a tag team effort between her ENT and her GI doc. They will first be doing an endoscope to check for an internal allergy. Then they will move on to her adenoidectomy. Finally they will be putting tubes in her ears. It is routine... and will be quick. We are thankful it is something they do every day. Unfortunately for a kid like Gracie this is far from ordinary. Many kids with SPD don't handle pain well. Something as small as a skinned knee can create a fit so bad that Grace ends up puking. A cut on her finger means that she will need a band aid for minimally a week because she cannot stand the sight of a cut on her body. Blood makes her feel light headed.
Thankfully her doctors have decided to forgo the tonsillectomy that is frequently a part of this procedure. Grace has undersized tonsils so they feel it would be unnecessary. That procedure creates a much greater degree of pain that what is being done.
I figure that we will have one of two situations. Either she will fly through this unfazed and be back to normal in a few hours OR this will make for a very, very long weekend for all of us. We will be prepared for either inevitability.
She goes in for surgery next Thursday morning and all three procedure will happen back to back. Make sure to keep her in your prayers for a safe day. Although we have done the whole anesthesia and surgery thing before it still scares the heck out of me. She is my baby.

I'm glad you can forego the tonsils - it definitely sucked and was very painful! I hope everything goes smoothly!
I'll keep Miss Gracie in my thoughts and prayers. I just had an adenoidectomy in December. I was expecting much worse pain than I experienced. I hope Grace sails through this!
My thoughts will be with you Momma! xoxo
