Day 24-Something you've learned
I have learned a lot in my years. I have learned from school, college, grad school, my various jobs, my students, my family, my husband, from books I have read. I'd like to think that I take an opportunity to learn something new every single day. But there is one thing that sticks out to me when I think about this topic.
When I got married my Dad wrote me a letter. (I know, sniff, sniff.) He made me a list of things to remember and things to be thankful for. There is one thing that is so simple but stuck out so much I think about it almost every day. He said to realize how incredibly lucky I am to be born an American. I never thought that much about it but do you realize (if you are one) how lucky you are? How free we are compared to so many others? I guess it is kind of funny this coincides with the election having just passed but whether you are pleased or upset with the outcome you have to remember how lucky we all are to have say in our government. Maybe not the way we wish but SOME.
Every time I go to Target, the grocery store, a football game, a doctors appointment, anywhere without having to worry about my safety I am luckier than so many other people.
So that's what I've learned. And every time I get teary eyed at the National Anthem I have my Dad to thank. ;D

Growing up my Dad's mantra was, "You're one of the lucky 1% born in this country." There are other great lands in this world but we undoubtedly the lucky 1% :-)
I tear up every single time I hear the national anthem!! I don't believe in luck but we are definitely blessed :)
