Last week the girls and I were at the pool. Genna joined us for a swim and since it was a breezy 78 degrees she left after we got out. That left the girls and I to play for a bit. Our pool has a wonderful playground beside the pool with a large sand pit. It is the girls favorite spot at the pool. Once the girls were dried off and had a snack they headed into "the pit". Since they were occupied I hung back in my chair and decided to watch. Instead of picking up my book I just watched. I watched them work together. I watched them create a plan and carry it out. I watched them work seamlessly with no fighting and no wrestling and no disagreeing.
I couldn't help but smile. Not just because my kids were playing so nicely and quietly, that's the obvious part. It was more about how amazing it is to have someone who is ALWAYS there. ALWAYS having someone to play with. ALWAYS having someone to plot and plan and scheme with. ALWAYS having someone you own age to talk to and laugh with and share with. It's amazing. I have two sisters and a brother. I was surrounded by my siblings all the time. But it wasn't the same. It wasn't someone so close that they were more like an extension of yourself. It is downright amazing.
Only a small percentage of people will ever have the luxury of being a twin. They're the lucky ones.
