Over the course of this summer I have taught Grace how to swim. She went from dependent upon her puddle jumper to being able to jump in the pool and swim to the side on her own. I taught Genna, Will and Jordan to swim fairly easily but I think Grace has been my easiest "student" so far. She has NO fear of the water (for good and for bad) so learning has been easy.
Abby has been a little slower in progressing. Her low muscle tone makes activities like swimming more challenging. Because of this we haven't pushed her as hard. She has been practicing her swimming in the baby pool and with her puddle jumper in the big pool. She spends a lot of time flailing around trying to emulate swimming motions. This week I noticed one day that she appears to have a natural buoyancy that Grace doesn't have. On a whim I decided to take off her puddle jumper. To my complete shock within fifteen minutes of "practice" in the little end she was swimming about two feet underwater ON HER OWN.
I. WAS. SHOCKED.
So much for her muscle tone holding her back.
So now I have two little fishies. The downside is that I can't let my guard down for two seconds. It's a little scary juggling both of them with no swimmies on. Thankfully they are both like fish and don't panic at all in the water.
I would have never guessed they would have come so far so fast!
