It is looking like my Dad will be headed home in the next day or so! He has started his chemo and his body has responded fairly well. The first day was rough. He was terribly nauseous and exhausted. The second day came with a terrible headache and his liver function dipped. The doctors are pretty adamant that going home is in his best interest.
I am sure there will be an adjustment period. Going from having 24 hour nursing care to being home could be tough. Thankfully there are enough of us around to help pick up the pieces if my Mom needs help.
When you think about cancer you think about all of the direct things. Chemo, survival rates, illness, germs, etc. What you don't think about are the peripheral things. All of the details that can slip through the cracks. Work. Disability. Getting bills paid. Taking care of life. It's a lot.
The most important thing (right now) is that my Dad should be home for Christmas!
