I took the girls this morning to the allergist for their semi-annual check up. They both have allergies and asthma and Abby has her food allergies and eczema. The same doc covers all of those conditions. He was satisfied with their meds for controlling the allergies and asthma. Usually we either do skin testing or blood testing (or both) to check on Abby's food allergies. Unfortunately her numbers were so high from the blood test last year that the doc decided it wasn't worth doing either this year.
I am glad she won't be subjected to unnecessary blood work or skin pricking but it is disappointing when another year passes with the allergies in place. Every year that passes means her chances of fully outgrowing the allergies go down. It also means that we have another year of complete avoidance of milk, eggs and blueberries.
All I can say is thank goodness for stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's who help us eat a fairly "normal" diet.
