We have been struggling with nightmares with poor Grace. She deals with a great deal of anxiety during her wakeful time so they have a tendency to spill into her sleep periods as well. It is so tough watching an already ADHD, anxiety ridden kid deal with horrible nightmares and lack of sleep. Makes you feel pretty helpless since there isn't a whole lot I can do to stop them. (We are making some changes to the girls room and our sleep habits to try to help her a little.)
Usually it is me who gets called to her room. I will sit with her for a few minutes until she settles then get her tucked back in. Two nights ago I was having a rough night with Jack so I woke up Brian to take a turn. He told me in the morning that he fell asleep sitting on the floor next to her and he was woken up by her giving him one of her blankets. He said when he looked at her she smiled and said "you looked cold Daddy". Just about melted my heart out of my body.
For a kid that can be wild, disruptive, rude and downright a pain in the butt... she sure has a heart of gold.
