I like to keep all of my posts related to Abby's diagnosis on "her blog" but this one spans both her diagnosis and our real life.
Abby has asked to get her ears pierced since she was about three. We have explained to her that it is something you do when you're older and you've earned the privilege. We have also explained that it is a responsibility and it hurts. Still she asks and asks and asks.
Recently we had a sort of revelation... we have recently been reminded of all she's been through. The surgery, appointments, therapy, pain, aches, bumps, bruises, etc. If she has had to endure so much pain and difficulty for something out of her control who the heck are we to tell the girl she can't pierce her ears.
So in a move of defiance against her diagnosis and all the crap she's dealt with, we let our five year old get her ears pierced!

Cute! Kate was asking to get hers done for a couple of days until we told her it would hurt. She hasn't asked since. ;)
But my rule is 8 years old. I'm hoping we get there...
