And roll it did. We have since become pretty dedicated to clean and healthy eating. This being said we do NOT ban our kids from eating occasional junk. I think kids need a little "junk" or it will become a bigger thing than it needs to be.
For us the journey started in the "dairy section". We bought organic only when it came to milk, cheese, butter, eggs, etc. A lot of what we started to buy was tofu or soy based to accommodate Abby's allergies. We did find that organic, cage-free brown eggs are SO much tastier than the regular old white eggs.
The next changes for us was produce. We paid close attention to the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fourteen. Not that we never grab a bag of fruit at Target but we do our best. The day I found non-GMO, organic frozen corn at Whole Foods was a wonderful day. We missed corn with our taco's. :D
The hardest change (because of the expense) was meat. We don't eat a ton of meat in our house. Most of my family likes their protein by way of eggs (obviously not Abby), yogurt, tofu, cheese and other non meat forms. But we make a strong attempt to buy as much organic meat as we can find (and afford).
I do feel like it makes a difference. We all feel better, more energetic, less bloated and icky. We have less digestive problems (Grace struggled during her first few years of life with GI issues). It has been a wonderful change for us. I am amazed at how many families are started to jump on the band wagon. This thrills me. The more people call out for organic and non-GMO food the more availability it will have. It is so great to walk into Target and be able to buy some organic food. This wasn't the case ten years ago. Maybe even five years ago.
